Talking to adults…he loves speaking about how TV stations now cover bad weather…it certainly has changed a lot over the last 10 years or so. Over the years he’s done local radio forecasts for KMBZ-AM and WHB-AM.īesides his FOX 4 weather forecasts, Joe gives dozens of speeches and severe weather seminars for the young and old each year. He also has been Chief Meteorologist at WAYK-TV in Orlando, Florida and KFKF-FM in Kansas City and WCEE-TV in Mt. This award-winning meteorologist was Chief Meteorologist at KOSA-TV in Midland, Texas for six years. Winter remains his favorite weather season because of those hard-to-forecast snowstorms. Growing up in New York, Joe remembers being fascinated by clouds and snowstorms at the age of 10. He joined the station in January 1995, but weather has been an important part of his life since childhood. I have been married to Deborah for 34 years and have 2 sons, Aaron and Micah. In 2005, I established the Katrina Hope Foundation to help in the re-assimilation of Hurricane Katrina victims into other communities nationwide. While in Connecticut I founded a Christian radio station and more recently chaired the Homecoming of Heroes parade here in Bakersfield.

From 1991 through 2004 I hosted the 'MoonWalk', which was a nighttime hike up a high Sierra peak under the full moon of August. To date, I have accomplished this goal in 43 states. I had visited all 50 states by age 19 and am currently attempting to climb to the highpoint of each state. Since 1984 I have also consulted for various law firms and insurance companies as an expert. My experience ranges from arctic work in Alaska to tropical forecasting in Panama. I have written several papers on forecasting techniques with additional research that has led to UV radiation forecasting methods and a process to predict the onset of El Nino conditions in the Pacific. Over the years I worked at various television stations throughout America, including Anchorage, San Antonio, New Orleans, Portland, St. I am both a meteorologist and station scientist. I also hold the National Weather Association (NWA) Television Seal of Approval (1992) and founded the Kern Chapter of the NWA in 2006. Additionally, I received the AMS Seals of Approval for Television in 1983 and Radio in 1985.

I am a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist, and earned that designation from the American Meteorological Society (AMS) in 2005. I attended Texas A&M University and graduated with honors from the U.S. My television career began as a weekend weathercaster in Anchorage, Alaska. The 3-star general I briefed each day suggested I do TV weather. My transition into television came in 1980 while serving as a weather briefer for the Alaskan Air Command. Air Force, I had an opportunity in 1972 to work with astronaut Gene Cernan, commander of the Apollo 17 moon mission, providing weather support for the Lunar Landing Training Vehicle. I am an avid severe storm chaser and have flown into hurricanes. My severe storm skills were honed while at Global Weather Central in Omaha, Nebraska in the 1970s, where I issued storm warnings for the entire nation.

Air Force for 12 years, I analyzed weather in all parts of the world. At 5 years old on Okinawa, my family and I lived through a typhoon and from that time on my passion was to understand weather. I am chief meteorologist at KBAK and have worked within the field of meteorology as a weather forecaster, media broadcaster and consultant for 37 years.
